About Mitch
Mitch Mason is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Football Chaplain at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Before arriving at UNC, Mitch served as the Associate Pastor of FreeWay Church in Clemson, SC for three years.
Prior to his time in Clemson, Mitch coached Sprint Football at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.
Mitch was a two-time All-American Defensive Back at Missouri Western State University. During his career at Missouri Western he finished with 16 interceptions which is second all-time. In 1996 he tied the single game record with three interceptions in a game against Pittsburg State. Mitch was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2014. In 2019, he was chosen as one of the greatest to ever play at Western and was named to the 90’s All-Decade Team.
Mitch played Arena Football professionally, with his last team being the New Mexico Wildcats in Rio Rancho, NM. He finished with three career interceptions and a touchdown before transitioning into coaching.
Mitch received his biblical education from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, TX. He holds a Bachelors Degree in English and Masters in Theology. Mitch is an ordained minister and certified professional chaplain. He is also the author of: X’s and O’s For the Heart: 21 Game-Changing Devotionals That Coach the Heart Beyond the Huddle.
Mitch and his wife Chondra have been married for 25 years and have two adult children: daughter Sydney and son Riley.
